Free advertising on the net, is it still practical? The short answer is yes! Even though paid advertising can be more effective, free advertising can still get the word out and still allow your site to rank highly on Google, Bing, and Yahoo. How? Let’s take a look at 3 of the more popular ways.
Blogging, everybody has heard of this type of advertising. There are lots of websites where you can submit a weblog for zero cost. Blogger and Wordpress are 2 examples. These are effective to a certain degree. If you really want to be seen, then paying a little extra for a domain name and hosting company is the #1 way to go about it. The least expensive way I’ve found is by just entering $3.99 domain name in Google. Make sure you pick a name that is closely related to the keyword you want to use most. Since I’m also a web designer, I use a hosting company that cost me around $27 every six months for unlimited domains and unlimited space and bandwidth. The company is called Just Host. I recommend them even for just one domain name hosting. Next, go into your control panel (yourdomain.com/cpanel) and scroll down to Fantastico. Then, go to Wordpress and set up your site name, admin name, password, and so on. You now want to install two plug-ins, XML Sitemap and All In One SEO. These will help your ranking on search engines. Next, just create your blogs. Make sure to incorporate your main keyword in the title and at least two to three times in the body. For more substance, you can install WP-O-Matic, which is an autoblogger. This will allow you to always have fresh content on your blog, which improves your chances of ranking higher on search engines.
The next free advertising source I’m going to discuss is press releases. You can write it yourself or outsource it. I use Fiverr.com for my press releases. When writing a press release you want to make sure you write a catchy headline of one sentence only. Use capitals on the first letter of each word and avoid exclamation points. In the first paragraph, include the physical location of the business, organization, or personal news release. Make sure this paragraph catches the reader’s attention. Use the five W’s of (W)ho, (W)hat, (W)hen, (W)here, and (W)hy, when applicable. This paragraph should summarize your whole press release. The next two paragraphs should contain more detailed info. This makes up the vast majority of the body of your Release. Finally, conclude with your contact information of your business, organization, or personal news release. Now, all you have to do is submit it. The best place to submit your press release is PRWeb, but it’s not cheap. You can submit it for free at PRFree.com.
The last way is article writing. This is a highly effective way to promote for free online. Even if you are the worst writer in the world, you can still pump out highly effective articles. How? By outsourcing your project. Have a friend write it, search for freelance sites on Google, go to a freelance forum or, and this is what I do, go to Fiverr.com. At this site you can find people to write a three hundred to four hundred word article for only five dollars. When your article is completed, the next step is to submit it to article directories. You can do this manually or go to an article distribution service like Submit Your Article.com. If you are doing it manually, you want to make sure you submit your article to Ezinearticles.com. It is the largest and most popular article marketing directory on the internet.
These 3 ways are not the only ways to get free advertising to your website. You can make a video and submit it to Youtube, viddler, and other video sites. Using forums, free classifieds, and social networks are also highly effective ways to promote your website for free.
